What hashrate means

Hashrate is the total computing power miners use to secure Bitcoin, measured in exahashes per second (EH/s). The higher it is, the more expensive it would be to attack the network.

Difficulty adjustments

Every 2,016 blocks (about two weeks) Bitcoin adjusts the mining difficulty so that blocks keep arriving roughly every 10 minutes. When more miners join, difficulty rises; when miners switch off, it falls. A steadily rising hashrate shows miners are confident enough to invest in new machines.
