What the Fear & Greed Index measures
The index combines volatility, momentum, volume, social media, dominance and search trends into one number from 0 to 100. Below 25 is extreme fear, 25–45 fear, around 50 neutral, 55–75 greed and above 75 extreme greed.
How traders use it
Extreme fear has often appeared close to market bottoms, when many people sell in panic. Extreme greed often shows up near local tops, when everyone is euphoric. It is a contrarian signal, not a timing tool: the market can stay fearful or greedy for weeks. Use the history chart to compare today’s reading with past cycles.
